Fotografia Europea is an international cultural festival dedicated to contemporary photography. The festival, created in 2006, is promoted by the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia. Fotografia Europea uses photography as a tool to reflect upon the complexity of the contemporary living.
The festival takes place in different locations of the city, both public and private, formal and informal, and it consists of a central core of exhibitions among which new ad hoc commissioned productions, related to a specific theme identified every year by the Scientific Committee. The exhibitions are accompanied by a rich program of events, conferences, screenings, workshops, portfolio reviews and site specific performances.
The new edition of Fotografia Europea “TIME MAPS. MEMORY, ARCHIVES, FUTURE”, wants to stimulate reflection on memory, archives and future and apply them to factual current issues: forgotten roads, menacing situations, the search for alternatives.
The word “Archive” intended not in terms of a space behind closed doors, of a conservative place: on the contrary. This is about a spread-out place where stories and images can be found and used to help us understand our present and imagine our future.
The title Time maps points directly at the power that images have to draw the topographic chart of our memory, as well as the representing a proposal for the future.
